Copy residues from the 3D viewer when you want to reuse the same selection in PyMOL or in a report.
Prerequisites: a structure shown in the 3D viewer.
- Click the residues you want in the 3D viewer. The status text shows what is selected, for example "1 Residue Selected".
- In the selection toolbar, click Copy selection.
- Select Copy as PyMOL selection.
- In PyMOL, paste the text after
select, for example select site, chain A and resi 57.
Result: the clipboard holds a PyMOL selection such as chain A and resi 57.
- Residue list instead: select Copy as residue list in step 3. The format is
A:57.
- Copy a whole pocket: open Structure actions (⋮) → Show Pockets, then in the pocket table open the row ⋯ menu and select Copy as PyMOL selection.
- Select whole chains: change the selection level from Residue to Chain before step 1.
